Four years, a vague recap
I remember my first day in college as if were yesterday. Everything was so new and fascinating and scary; all at the same time . I remember the navy blue and white suit I had worn that day . I remember how scared I was about the fact that my duppatta was not pinned and that seniors would notice that and scream at me. I also remember taking a hair pin out of my hair and using that to hold my duppatta.
I remember walking down the road in front of our hostel for the first time on the evening before the classes were to start . There were two of us and as we walked down the road, on either side of which seniors sat in a row checking us out, I remember feeling so apprehensive, I remember making sure my eyes were cast down[ as per the ragging rules ], and remember clutching the Uncle Chips packet in a tight ball in my sweaty hands , not sure if as part of ragging we were permitted to eat chips or no ! hehe.
I remember being nicknamed ‘gori waali ladaki’ by the seniors during the time ragging was going on. A name that gets me the chills even today.
I now know that I.T in hindi is ‘Soochana prodyogiki’ , thanks to the seniors!
In the beginning, a sea of 8 unending semesters seemed to stretch before me. It seemed impossible that the course would ever come to an end.And look at how time has passed!
Being a days scholar in a class and college that consisted mainly of hostlers has had its own set of problems. Days scholars were always the outsiders . Initially I tried to be part of the whole group but then just let it be.We had bad access to information till the online information board was set up for our branch, there was no common room in the college for us , and we had go all the wya to the hostles to rest, if we wanted to.And we were, by and large , different from the hostkers, with a different set of problems et al.
The one regret I have about Btech is a girl called S. Now S and I have had a very tumultuous relationship over the last 4 years. The reason is that while we can be the best of friends when we are friends, we simply don’t say a word to each other when we are not the best of friends. There is no in between , really, and I believe that is the nemesis of our relationship. Either every thing or nothing! That really is the worst! I have not really spoken to her in the last 3 semesters even though we had a couple of projects to do. Spending time with her for that made me dislike her even more. She was totally not serious, bossy and rude and I wondered how I had ever been such good friends with her . But I also remember the million giggles exachanged during class , the long discussions during break, the gossiping, the trust. Even today when some teacher says something to her in the way of a reprimand, our eyes always meet before she lowers them and the teacher continues with the scolding. Often in between lectures our eyes meet and both of us hurriedly look away.
In the 4 years I have spent here , in this college, S has been my best friend. She is also someone I do not speak with anymore, and I will not either. Yet, in spite of all the screaming and the fights that happened between us [ there were times I simply could not bear being with her for a second more and I would just pick up my stuff and move out of her room ] I do genuinely care about her and wish her the best from the bottom of my heart.
There are times when even though you get along very well when together, you happen to be so bad when you are having an argument or a fight, that it is best to part ways. That is exactly what happened between us.
We exchanged a few words during the farewell party that the juniors had thrown for us, but they were by and large very formal.
She, I came to know recently, now has a boy friend. :) I am happy for her.
So, day after tomorrow, I will be done with my last theory exams in this college . No more mugging of random points that make no sense. No more familiar faces to sit with during the exams. Change, after all, is the essence of llife.
Have a nice day.

Cruch Vs Friend
I am relatively free these days, so I have been renting a lot of DVDs and books catching up on stuff for which I have had little time in the past year. Last to last week's pick was a Julia Robets Movie collection which included 'Pretty Woman' . After watching the movie for the nth time ever I came to a profound conclusion.
Richard Gere is by far one of the most handsome men to have ever walked on this planet.
'Pretty Woman' rocks but in its own way manages to glamourize prostituition as well. The ugly aspect of prostituition has been completely ignored in the movie. But I guess that aspect of it should be left for Oprah Winfrey to deal with when she broadcasts shows bringing out the plight of the prostitutes.
Also obviously, no man as well placed as Mr Edwards Lewis would take a Vivian as seriously but still whether it is the performance of the two stars or the script or whatever, it all seems so very realistic.
So, coming back to how handsome Richard Gere is. Yes , he is handsome, he has the tiniest eyes on this planet yet they are adorable .I have liked him since I do not know when. But it was all set to change .
*sigh*
That was when I saw him on 'Koffee with Karan'. You know how it is, you build an image of a star in you head , you 'god'-ify him, you think he is uber cool but then one thing happens and woosh! its all gone!
The thing is, Karan Johar is friend. Uh okay, he is not a friend but he seems as if he could be one. I love the movies he makes , I admire the manner in which he keeps his friends and I hate to see him stiffen visibly when Richard Gere says things he should not say.
I am a very loyal 'Koffe' fan and I hated it when Gere in the very beginning of the interview said something like 'uh well I had never heard of 'Koffee with Karan' but it is great to be here'. Small thing, you would probably say, but well , say that infront of a loyal fan and bingo!
Then the 'Clash'. Gere came across as seomeone quite concieted and childish. So much for the intellectual looking spectacles that adorn his pretty little nose. The manner in which he dealt with the 'Rapid Fire ' round. He could have atleast pretended to have been interested. The cameras were quick to catch Karan notice the bored sigh that escaped Gere when Karan fired another question.Karan ended the round with that question and I have my doubts whether that was actually the end of the round or no.
I love' Koffe with Karan', I love Karan Johar, I also love the Rapid Fire round . Look at how much fun it is when our Bollywood actors take the quiz!
So, even though Mr Gere, you were my first crush ; I fell in love with you the very first time I saw 'Pretty Woman ', let me set the records straight , Karan is a friend and I do NOT like my friends be mistreated.
Huh!

A one word post is certainly not my type and hence here I go, at almost midnight, typing away whatever it is that is coming to my head!
This other day I was writing a mail to a friend who asked me about a particular book and why I liked it so much.
And then, even though I have often mentioned it as one of my favourite books, for the first time I actually sat down to think why 'Catcher in the Rye' is one of my favourites.
It was in thinking about this question that I came to an absurd answer which brought me to an even more absurd theory.
I like the book so much because it reminds me of a girl I used to know in school.I liked the girl and since I associate the book with that, I liked the book also!
Let me tell you a bit about 'R'.
R was one of the weird types..she was tall [ did not know what to do with her ever soo long hands and legs] gawky, untidy style of dressing, untidy hair etc etc.
She was also someone who fought with her mother in lass 9 for extra playtime!
Imagine!
She was crazy, absolutely crazy.Just before this presentation we had to make in class 9 she got so nervous a few minutes before she had to speak, that she actually went up to the teacher and told her that she needed to go to the informary!
Now this is something that apparently a lot of people have done, but for me , it was a first and the last!
Anyways..so Catcher in the Rye is like R, both are whacky, sometimes make no sense, are funny and likeable inspite of their imperfections.
Now, my theory. It is that we can , if we wish to, associate a book with a personality.
Like for me:
1.Harry Potter books= a tall , handsome young man, who defines what courage, frienship and loyalty are!
2.Catcher in the Rye= R.
3.Sydney sheldon books= a blonde woman, with an ossum figure , IQ running into 170s and 180s.Sharp . Intelligent . Beautiful. Mysterious.
4.Enid Blyton books= a young girl ina pink frilly frock, hair in pig tails, running widly across the green hills.
Okay, I never said it was an intelligent theory. Justa theory .A weird one.Lemme know what you think!
